Life of the Party
This week in Digital Male: Lives, Laughter and Likes. Plus, This Week in History and Your Weekly Affirmation.
Been a heck of a week. As we barrel towards Independence Day and our friends in Canada have celebrated Canada Day - we are now officially in summer mode here at Digital Male. It’s not too late to check out our Summer Guide for you to get summer ready!
It’s funny how you can see things from different perspectives. Life comes at you hard sometimes and you’ve got to be ready. Sometimes people who you thought you could trust suddenly don’t have your best interest at heart. They are quick to anger, don’t communicate and start to resent you. You start to hate it when you are right.
Be careful out there - you never know who will show their true colors when things get rough. They might be scornful or brazen and they will definitely criticize. But recognize what you are seeing as the real person. It can be especially hard when this is a family member or a significant other. Hopefully you’re in a position to be the better person and to do better than they are.
Take care out there - it’s a crazy world.
LIVES
We are not really fans of The Guardian out of the UK, but we were interested when we saw this an article about porn addiction and its impact on the addict.
This is a difficult topic for many - porn is so readily available that it can mess with your mind - especially when you are in a healthy, sexually active relationship. But the lengths that some people go to cover things up is quite incredible and the stories outlined in here are eye opening.
It is a long read, but worth it - check out The Secret Lives of Porn Addicts on TheGuardian.com
LAUGHTER
Every so often a video comes along that not only makes you laugh, you go back to it time and again. It embeds itself in your brain and gets called up every once in a while. For us, that video is the original Winnebago Man.
If you haven’t seen it, strap yourself in and enjoy a blooper-filled video that is from a commercial for an RV. Jack Rebney is just trying to get through his lines, but almost anything and everything imaginable comes out of his mouth.
All we can say is: accoutrement!
LIKES
We have something new to announce: we have launched our first-ever TikTok! It is a welcome introduction into what Digital Male is all about.
You can find it at TikTok.com/digital__male. Give us a like and follow as we will continue to put this content out there!
THIS WEEK IN HISTORY
Here are three things that happened this week in history:
July 4, 1776: The United States Declaration of Independence was adopted by the Continental Congress. The Declaration announced that the thirteen American colonies were no longer subject to the British monarch and were now united, free, and independent states.
July 5, 1946: The bikini swimsuit was introduced by French designer Louis Réard at a popular swimming pool in Paris. Named after the Bikini Atoll, the site of recent atomic bomb tests, the bikini was controversial at the time but has since become a standard in swimwear fashion.
July 6, 1957: John Lennon and Paul McCartney of The Beatles met for the first time at a church fete in Woolton, Liverpool. This meeting marked the beginning of a partnership that would become one of the most influential in the history of popular music.
YOUR WEEKLY AFFIRMATION
“When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time.” - Maya Angelou
There are people who trust without question and those who trust until you give them a reason not to. I fall into the latter category. I have experienced all sorts of bullshit in my life, but it is always amazing who it turns out to be that is spewing it.
It’s never the person you expect, nor is it the one you want it to be. In the end, it can be painful to be correct in your assumptions. I for one hate it when I’m right - because it usually means something bad is about to happen. I am not dealing with as much as others, but I am dealing with many of the things that most men are. So if you are like me, let’s try and be better than those we interact with so that we can hold our heads high and know that we walking the path that makes us, us. What can be better than that?
For those that are struggling, know that you can do it and you are not alone.
